When you place an order with us you are making an offer to buy goods, we will send you an email confirmation of your order. In the unlikely event that there is a pricing error we will contact you and no contract will exist between us.


We make every effort to ensure our products are accurately represented on-screen but we strongly advise customers to order samples before placing an order. We cannot guarantee that you monitor is displaying an accurate reflection of the actual product.

Variations can occur between fabric batches so if you require an exact match please ask for a ‘stock cutting’, there may be a charge for this service. Further details are available on enquiry.


Payment is taken at the time you place your order. If an item is out of stock or otherwise unavailable we will contact you at the earliest opportunity.

It is your responsibility to ensure you are ordering the correct products and quantity for the purpose they are being purchased.

Promotional prices only apply during promotional periods and cannot be applied after a promotion has ended.

Once your order has been placed changes may not be possible or may incur additional charges or delays.


If your order contains fabric, please note the following important information:

Natural fabrics such as linen and silk have a characteristically flawed appearance. The presence of slubs and irregularities in the weave are not considered faults in these types of fabrics.

We cannot accept claims for flawed or faulty fabrics after the cloth has been cut or processed in any way.

All measurements (for example pattern repeats and fabric widths) are approximate and subject to manufacturing tolerances. Pattern repeat lengths and widths can vary within manufacturing tolerances between rolls.

We will always try to ensure fabrics are dispatched in one continuous length however occasionally orders are received for amounts larger than the remaining length of fabric on each remaining roll of stock. If this is the case, and it is possible for us to do so, we will contact you to calculate your cut lengths to ensure you receive an appropriate additional lengfth of fabric from the same batch at no additional charge subject to your approval.

Shade variances between batches are to be expected. If you place two separate orders on different occasions for the same design we cannot guarantee that the two lengths will be from the same batch. Fabrics will not be refunded in these instances. Please contact us if you wish to purchase fabric later on from the same batch as a previous order – though please be aware it is not always possible to accommodate this request.

Washing and care instructions are available on request. For the avoidance of doubt it is not suggested anywhere on our website that any of our fabrics are machine washable or not liable to shrinkage. You must make allowances in any projects for potential shrinkage. A manufacturers shrinkage tolerance is applicable to all fabrics and is usually about 5%. For specific care instructions and details please contact us.


Goods are dispatched in accordance with our delivery information page. Your order may arrive in more than one parcel. Any changes to the delivery address after placing your order may not be possible or may incur additional charges.

If your order arrives damaged or missing please contact us within two working days from the delivery date.

Occasionally deliveries are delayed due to circumstances outside of our control and in these instances we cannot be responsible for this. We are not liable for any consequential costs or losses due to late or incorrect deliveries.


You have the right to cancel your contract with us for any reason within 14 days after you receive your goods, you will receive a full refund including all postage costs within 30 days of receiving the goods. You must notify us of your cancellation in writing by emailing us at hello@bythemetre.com including your order details. It is your responsibility to make arrangements for return carriage in these situations unless we have agreed otherwise.

These rights do not apply to goods customised to your specifications, this includes (but is not limited to) cut length fabrics. You cannot return cut length fabrics if you change your mind. We suggest you order a sample or returnable cutting first to ensure you are ordering the correct cloth.

If your order is faulty or incorrect please notify us within 2 working days of receiving your order. Faulty or incorrect fabric orders cannot be returned if cut or processed in any way.

Deliveries are arranged through a range of couriers depending on which service best suits your order. Further details are on our delivery information page. If delivery is attempted and nobody is in to collect the order a single redelivery attempt may be made or a card may be left indicating how to collect your parcel or arrange further delivery. After a period of time your order may be returned to us at which point a charge may be payable to arrange re-delivery.


Your statutory rights are not affected.
